History In the Indian Epic Ramayana, When Lakshmana fell unconscious, near death, hit by an arrow from Ravana’s son Meghnad, Sri Ram Bhaktha Anjaneyar approached the Lankan Royal Physician Sushena for guidance. Sushena asked Anjaneyar to rush to Dronagiri Hills and fetch four plants: Mruthasanjeevani (restorer of life), Vishalyakarani (remover of arrows), Sandhanakarani (restorer of the skin) and Savarnyakarani (restorer of skin colour) Sri Anjaneyar, was not able to pick the four from the multitude, brought back the entire hill. And Lakshmana was revived from near death back to life. While carrying Sanjeevani Hills, Anjaneyar was thirsty. He was searching for water to quench his thirst. He had a rule that the hills should not be kept down before reaching Lakshmana. Anjaneyar prayed to Lord Shiva to help his thirst. Lord Shiva requested Lord Muruga to provide water. Lord Muruga with his "VEL"​ hit the rock and gave a fountain of water to Ram Bhaktha Anjaneyar. Therefore the place is named as "ANU"​ for Hanuman and "VAVI"​ for fountain in classical language Tamil. And so the place is named as ANUVAVI.
