The khooni jheel meaning bloody lake got its name after the 1857 uprising when several Indian and British soldiers, women and children died here. There is no trace of red in this lake. Whatever blood was shed here dried up ages ago. It is not even big enough to be called a lake but more like a small pond. Surrounded by thick vegetation from all sides, the greenish layer over the water along with the swimming ducklings paint a serene picture contrary to its reputation. But be cautious as the signboards also indicate that the lake is at least 80 feet deep and has a history of drowning incidents which is why swimming or diving in the lake is not allowed.
Decent place but there is no water now in that jheel.
It is not a place where you can chill with your friends or family. First of all it is a very wild kind of a place as there are so many monkeys around this place. Secondly it is not a tourist spot so it is not maintained. Thirdly even in so wild place you will find so many couples being intimate here which makes people coming here with family or even friends uncomfortable.
A very quiet, serene and calming place in the heart of delhi. Place is naturally beautiful. You can spend time here with your friends or loved ones. But beware of the monkeys.
