Awesome place. Lived there for two years. Food could be a little more special. Especially on Sundays. And it would be nice to get new bedsheets every week. Good atmosphere though!
Have not been inside :-). At some point in future, the jail should be moved to outskirts of the city and the huge land should be converted into a green space. Coimbatore needs fresh green spaces if it cares about environment and pollution.

Coimbatore Central Prison is a prison located near Gandhipuram bus stand in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. The prison was constructed during the year 1872. It is located in an area comprising 167.76 acres (0.6789 km2). The prison is authorized to accommodate 2208 prisoners. The freedom fighter V.O. Chidambaram Pillai The prison acts as a rehabilitation center for prisoners by promoting agricultural activities inside the prison by inmates, selling snacks cooked by inmates at low cost, selling fabrics and cloths stitched inside the prison. The prison has a weaving unit with 109 power looms where 200 convicted prisoners work in two shifts. The prison also helps inmates to gain knowledge with its library and also by promoting the inmates to appear for various exams and have a decent living after the term period.
My first opinion is that there should not be any inmates. We need a clean society. Of course criminals should be punished. Shift it to the outskirts of coimbatore and the inmates should be given counselling. The punishment given to the hard-core criminals should be the lessons for others so that in future they shouldn't involve in criminal activities.
Eager to Visit but ., not as a accused but as a visitor
Have no idea on how it looks inside. But the outer view is good and it has occupied pretty big space near Gandhipuram bus stand.
