H.E.L.G.O. is a non-profit offering child labourers and extremely underprivileged kids a way out of poverty through education. The organization selects children from poor families who are currently working or would start working to support their family soon. While those children earn an essential part of the family income it is almost impossible for them to attend school. Through a monthly rations of basic food items H.E.L.G.O. is compensating the loss of immediate income if the child enters the project and joins school. School fees, materials and free coaching classes are provided. In addition children from exceptionally difficult backgrounds are admitted to the small hostel of H.E.L.G.O. to be able to concentrate on their studies. After finishing school H.E.L.G.O. also offers support for vocational training to the children. Approximately 200 children are currently supported in two centers where coaching classes are held and a free midday meal is also provided. H.E.L.G.O. e.V. as an approved charitable organization in German provides funding and takes strategic decisions. It is run by a governing board consisting of 5 voluntary members. The "H.E.L.G.O. Child Labour Project"​, run in cooperation with a local NGO, implements the work with its Indian staff, a full-time representative of the German organization and anually two young German volunteers.
