Puthuvype lighthouse is situated less than half a kilometer away from the beach. This lighthouse is one of the tallest in India. There is a shallow ditch to the north of the Beach.Entry to the lighthouse is permitted from 3 P.M to 5 P.M. Mondays are off days and the lighthouse is closed to the public. An entry fees has to be paid at the base of the lighthouse to the staff to go up the lighthouse. The Puthuvype Lighthouse is by the side of the coastal road between the beach and the mainland. This Lighthouse was earlier in Fort Kochi and was shifted to the present location in 1979. It is 46 meters tall, octagonal in shape concrete tower and it replaced the 1839 AD. This lighthouse is believed to be tallest in Kerala. Recently it was renovated with the addition of an elevator. It is one of the most beautiful landmark of the area. From the lighthouse tower one can see the surrounding marshy lands and palm fringed landscape, nestled with churches and houses. The lighthouse is visible from the nearby beaches and villages. Opposite the lighthouse is the Shri Vishnu Temple. One can have wonderful view of the sea and the sunset from the light house top. It was less crowded when we visited.There are small tea shops at the beach.Ample parking.Nice for family outing .
️The lighthouse which was functioning in Fort Kochi from 1839 was shifted to Puthuvype in 1979.It is the tallest lighthouse in kerala.The current lighthouse started functioning only by 15 November 1979, the Cochin lighthouse has a long historical background!. There is a timing restriction to enter the lighthouse 10 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 5:45 pm. The lighthouse and its premises are maintained in a clean manner! When u reach the top of the light house,u will feel the fresh clam atmosphere @ vypeen light house ! We can reach the top of the light house by lift & Also can be use step!!
