Cheated as workshop conductors. DONT HOLD WORKSHOPS HERE. We held a children's filmmaking workshop, and the participants loved the experience. After 7 months and many requests, pleas, threats, we still have not received the money we had decided upon at the start. After talking of our experience, we found its common for those conducting workshops to not receive their due amount, also other who have worked in past, briefly or long term, with Sudipta (the main organiser of Culture Monks), many have told horrific stories of financial cheating and labour exploitation. In fact, he has advertised one of our workshop participants wonderful experience on his blog, but he doesn't care about the actual work. We told him that we will not publish the final films of the children participants till we get our full due, as we were fearing we will never see the money. He did not care about this at all, did not care the children will not have their films published, what they and us worked so hard on, and he didn't get back to us about it at all. In terms of his contribution to the workshop, there was mainly the space, his outreach was quite poor. Most of the participants came through our own outreach anyway, we brought all our assistants and helpers. The money we are asking for is not so much that it would be difficult to give, but it is a minimum compensation for our work and materials used, and Culture Monks is withholding it just because it can get away doing so. He also emotionally manipulates people to believe he is struggling psychologically and financially and somehow all the rest of us should sacrifice for his well being. This is one of the reason many people don't speak up easily about their exploitation - they feel sorry for him - but ask a bit more, probe a bit more to those hes worked with, and you will hear.
