An superb storehouse of tramways transportation device of old town of Calcutta. lots of artifacts, models are kept interior enriching the understanding concerning history of transportation gadget of this tricentennary metropolis. commonly the location saved closed in Thursday, however at some stage in holidays the region profits the attendance of plenty of site visitors. excellent area for a pair date, masses of chats between pals and enjoying nostalgia with hot coffee and snacks, for forty five minutes. furthermore the region is so photogenic that one cannot switch off his/her cell digital camera, but virtual digital camera isn't always allowed inside. in keeping with my traveling enjoy, perfect time to visit is after the sunset, when the lighting fixtures grow to be greater luminous, the vicinity becomes greater enthralling.

Inaugurated in 2014, Smaranika, the tram museum in Kolkata is the brainchild of CTC to preserve the fading history and heritage of tram in Kolkata. The small museum and café is located deep inside Esplanade CTC Depot, very close to the shopping district but away from the chaos of moving traffic. Interestingly the museum has no separate building, but has been thoughtfully housed in an actual retired rolling stock. The particular tram was built in 1938 and belonged to the Bombay Fleet of trams. It has been refurbished at the Nonapukur Workshop in Kolkata, retaining the wooden vintage look of the car. Of the two bogies of the car, the first one is a small café while the second bogie houses the museum and the exhibits. Timing :- Smaranika, the tram museum is open 6 days a week from 1pm to 8 pm daily. On Thursdays the museum remains closed for the entire day. Entry :- To enter the Smaranika compound, which is a beautiful garden with the stationary tram car at the center, one has to buy a ticket of INR 20/- per head. The ticket is designed as an enlarged version of original tram ticket but in thick paper, qualifying itself as a memorabilia! The ticket allows one to stay inside Smaranika for 45 minutes, which is justified since space inside is limited.

Nice!!!! It's made on an original tram. First bogie is for museum and second bogie is for cafeteria. More than museum I love the cafeteria and the employees are very kind nature. I should have gave 5 star but only thing that museum is too small and entry fee is also low Rs.20 for single tram museum and in combo Rs.15 but it is too small. But experience is awesome.

This place is a hidden gem, right in the middle of Esplanade. It's a tram museum, inside a decommissioned carriage. Aside from the spectacular history of Trams in Kolkata...it also has a small indoor cafe (very basic) for people to relax over snacks. Highly recommended, if you are in or around Esplanade.
