Visited the Konni Elephant Camp on 31st March, 2021. Fairly well maintained park. There were five elephants at the camp when we visited - 1 adult male, 1 young male, and 3 females. Although the animals look well fed and well looked after, physically, it is distressing to see them chained up, unable to move around very much. They have to spend hours together like that. I think it is high time we, in India, changed the way captive elephants are kept. We can see videos of how captive jumbos are kept in places like Africa and Thailand, on the Internet, and those practices look much more humane. When are things going to change for the giants in captivity - I wonder.

Great experience. There were a few elephants and 2 to 3 buildings with elephant history and arts and crafts related to elephants. It is a great place to learn all about elephants and how they evolved over time.

Konni is an important town on the main eastern highway. Konni is about 10 km away from the district headquarters. Konni assembly constituency is part of Pathanamthitta. The lush green land has been prominent as a haven of wild elephants and as an elephant training centre. The large area of thick forest with wild animals made Konni to emerge as another tourist spot for safaris and trekking. In Kerala there are two elephant training centres, the other located at kodanad. It is located in the adoor revenue division and it is one of the major towns situated near it. Only 40 rupees for each tickets and only 10 rupees for parking.
