Must have - Mutton Burra, Mutton Jahangiri, Seekh Kabab and Phirni @ Karim's - one of the Old Delhi’s most iconic restaurant. Not out of this world but in case you are near Jama Masjid/Old Delhi you (if a non-vegetarian) can give this place a visit.

Yes and no. Possibly you are asking because you ate at Karim's - if so, you are right. But Karim's is not the only eating place in that area, and not everything is overrated and overpriced at Karim's. Most of the other eateries still maintain quality and taste. Even at Karim's - to the people who know - there are items which are delectable and VFM. 'Overpriced' is a subjective term. Jama Masjid eateries are best compared with those at Nizamuddin. The same dishes (some of them are not available elsewhere) would priced much higher in, say, Friends Colony or Lajpat Nagar. It is an issue of affordability, and the people running the establishments track it. If they price it too high, volume goes down. OTOH most people in Delhi, whether it is due to affluence or plain show off, don't bat an eyelid at the prices (\khana hai toh khana hi hai\). And then there are the domestic tourists who will pay and complain about the prices when they are back home. 'Overhyped' is the main issue. If any establishment with a long history (there are quite a few in Delhi) don't maintain standards, they are no longer VFM. Whenever input costs squeeze margins, restaurateurs increase prices. If the market is price sensitive (too much competition) they cut down on high cost ingredients - leaving customers dissatisfied.

There are many outlets of this legendary place across Delhi but nothing beats the experience of eating at the oldest outlet. No matter what time of the day or night you visit, there is always a waiting time, so be prepared to stand in line for at least 30-40 minutes. But the moment the food arrives at the table, it makes all the waiting worth it. Such soft and succulent kebabs that you can't stop at just one. The phirni is equally mind blowing.

This is my review for Karim's in old Delhi near Jama masjid. We ordered karahi chicken which was very good in taste, another we ordered half chicken changezi which was mind-blowing in taste. Enjoyed both the dishes with rumali Rotis. Visit this place to experience the flavourful nonveg dishes. Just one drawback, should work on their sitting area. Quality Taste
