The New India Summit has been established with the resolve to showcase, deliberate & evolve a model of sustainable development in a multi-nation setting, thereby, channeling nations combined resources & developing frameworks and mechanisms to enable development. Three hundred years ago, the state of the world was one with unlimited resources and nations had limited aspirations. This enabled 5% of humanity to develop, using then copious resources such as coal and oil for their development. The exploitation of non-renewable resources formed the basis of the Old Model of Development. Today, the scenario is reversed, with the remaining 95% of the developing and underdeveloped world relying on limited resources to fulfil their aspirations. This challenge needs a discussion that evolves development scenarios from the Old Model of Exploitation to a New Model of Empowerment. With a sixth of the world’s population, India is slated to lead the New Model of Empowerment. As the bridge between the developed and the developing, India shows exceptional promise to evolve as a socio-economic lab, whose successes can be customized and scaled to other developing nations.
