The Solan became a District of Himachal Pradesh on 1st September, 1972. It was carved out of Solan and Arki Tehsils of the then Mahasu District and Kandaghat and Nalagarh Tehsils of the then Shimla District. The District is divided into four Sub-Divisions (Solan, Nalagarh, Arki, and Kandaghat), five Tehsils (Arki, Kandaghat, Kasauli, Nalagarh, and Solan), and two Sub-Tehsils (Kuthar and Ramshehar). Earlier this District was under the control of District and Sessions Judge, Sirmour at Nahan and District and Sessions Judge, Sirmour at Nahan held circuit court at Solan for a week every month. However, the Court of Senior Sub Judge/Rent Controller/Judge Small Cause /Chief Judicial Magistrate exists permanently at Solan. Later on, the necessity arose and the need for separate Civil and Sessions Division was felt and subsequently, this Civil and Sessions Division separated from Sirmour Civil and Sessions Division and a separate Court of District and Sessions Judge established at Solan. Shri M. R. Chaudhary was the first District & Sessions Judge. Later on court of Addl. District and Sessions Judge was established at Solan in the year 1995. The Court of Sub Judge, Solan was established at Solan in the year 1995. Court of Add. District and Sessions Judge-2, Solan came into light in the year 2003. The newly establishment Court of Sub Judge, Solan was established in the year 2014.

Wonderful court complex, different trial courts and appellate courts under one complex and very dedicated Hon'ble Judges, efficient staff. Numerous chambers of Ld. Advocates all around the court complex for the convenience of public at large. For outsiders, it is suggested to park your vehicle in the paid parkings outside the judicial court complex as private vehicles are not allowed inside the court complex due to scarcity of parking space.
