Deputy CM visits Golf Course in Tura By Times - May 24, 2012 TURA, May 24: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Bindo M Lanong visited the Durama Golf Course inside the 35 Batallion (Bn) BSF Camp at Danakgre on Thursday morning. Soon after his arrival, Lanong, who also holds charge of Sports and Youth Affairs Department and a keen golfer himself, teed off a friendly 30-minute game with the members of the local Golf Club. The Golf Course inside the sprawling 77.69 acre complex was planned and developed by Commandant of 114 Bn BSF, AK Ekka and inaugurated by DIG, Tura SHQ, GS Chaudhury, on December 12, 2010. The existence of this second golf course in Meghalaya, overlooking the Durama Range, had been unknown to the people of the region except for a few golfers from Tura. The founder members of the Golf course also include the former IG, BSF, RK Thakur, Commandant, 35 Bn BSF, AL Tirkey, 2 I/C, 114 Bn BSF, Medical Officer, 114 BSF, Dr Gabriel Taye, former MLA of Tura, Billykid A Sangma and EE CPWD, Shailesh Kumar. During a brief interaction, the members of the Golf Club sought the support of the Deputy Chief Minister for development of the Golf Club in Tura. During the course of his interaction, Lanong also enquired the BSF Commandant about law and order situation in the border areas.

The Golf Course is located in the B.S.F. Camp in Danakgre, Tura. The 9 hole golf course is the only golf course in Tura. It is owned and maintained by the Border Security Force (B.S.F.) The Golf Course was planned and developed by Shri. A.K.Ekka the then Commandant of 114 Bn B.S.F. Danakgre and was inaugurated by Shri. G.S. Chaudhoury D.I.G. B.S.F. Tura. The other founding members of the B.S.F. Golf Course are Shri. R.K. Thakur Ex IG B.S.F.; Shri.A.L. Tirkey, Commandant 35 B.S.F.; Shri.I.K.Mehta 2 i/c 114 Bn B.S.F. ; Dr. Gabriel Taye M.O. 114 B.S.F.; Shri Billykid A. Sangma Ex M.L.A. Tura, Shri. Shailesh Kumar Executive Engineer C.P.W.D. The Golf Course is home to the Durama Golf Club which comprises of members who are B.S.F. Officials and civilians also.
