Be aware of imposters! We tried twice to get a taxi driver to take us here. The first driver took us to an imposter store called Malhotra that clearly paid commission because the driver walked in with us, said a few words to the shop keeper and then walked back outside to wait. The second taxi driver we asked just flat out refused to take us to Mehotra at all, claiming that it was too far out if his way (we had arranged with him upon hiring to take us from our hotel to a guided tour of a site, then to Mehrotra, and back to hotel, but after the site he just wanted to take us back to the hotel.) I'm confident that these drivers would not have been paid commission at the genuine Mehotra Silk Factory and this is why they refused to take us there, which is frustrating since we paid the drivers their typical driver fare. Be very cautious and demand that your driver take you to the correct store and don't buy from a fake one that pays commissions or you will simply make it worse for those customers trying to get to a legitimate store. This taxi behavior needs to be stopped!
Probably the best Varanasi silk factory with good advices and fair prices. They offer you chai, do not push to consumption and explain you everything. I strongly recommend it !

A must visit on your trip to Varanasi!!! Family run business with very friendly and knowledgeable owners. Reasonably priced, great selection of one-of-a-kind sarees, fabrics, etc. Also, a great way to support the dying art of handloom weaving!!!
