Cave 26 is a worship hall (chaityagriha, 25.34 11.52 m) similar in plan to Cave 19, but much larger and with elements of a vihara design. An inscription states that a monk Buddhabhadra and his friend minister serving king of Asmaka gifted this vast cave.
Visited Aug 2018. Quite a nice cave but IMO the ASI have ruined it a bit by installing lights etc. By the time most people reach here they are a bit exhausted ;-) . See the attached pics, there's no way to describe these caves, you just have to see them. Try and get the ASI World Heritage Series booklet at the gate/bookstore, totally worth it.
You must visit this cave first , before seeing the other caves... but it is the last cave in line.. It is very interesting and beautiful maintained cave
(Visited in July 2019) - pièce de résistance! . Mere thought of this magnum opus brings sheer joy to me! It's one of the best caves at Ajanta - full of beautiful rock art masterpieces - Mahaparinirvana of Buddha with the humans weeping & celestials happy, 'Temptation of Mara' panel where Buddha pleasantly radiates in BhoomiSparsha Mudra, withstanding all desires/temptations.
the last cave of ajitha, u can see here lost of buddha carvings and stupa and statues, also h can se 24 feet maha nirvana of buddha statue right side in vihar
Lord Buddha pari nirvana sculpture is important.Hinayan sthubhi with Buddha's sculpture in centre.
Best architecture in all the caves of Ajanta. The 20 ft sleeping sculpture of lord Buddha is the main attraction here.
