Once a palatial house - "Kothi" - as it was called, the monument is a surviving testimony of the Awadhi life-style and culture. Constructed by Nawab Saadat Ali Khan, the building once must have been an imposing structure. This is evident from its broad pillar bases constructed with "Lakhori" bricks. The building along with its lush green and enchanting garden was used by Nawab and his Begams for recreational and camping purposes. Later, it was used for military parade during the time of East India Company. This spot witnessed fierce fighting during 1857. Henry Havelock died in this building. This is a very important monument which is now under the control of ASI. Situated in the cantonment area of the city, it is a must place to visit. Here normal transportation is not available. It is thus required to arrange a transportation beforehand.
