Some Doctors behave like Gods. Dr. Deepraj Bhandarkar was like Santa in scrubs. The Covid mask did not hide his joviality as he looked down on my petite mother from his towering height. She was in extreme pain. Lined up for surgery for an infected gall bladder. And scared. No wonder, she is 88. Dr. Bhandarkar put her at ease with his soft touch and gentle approach. He comforted her by his presence. The hallmark of all great surgeons is that patients draw upon their quiet confidence and gain strength for the surgery. It was that way with my mother. She came out of the OT cheerfully and quickly found her feet. I had been worried for her. Till I met Dr. Bhandarkar. Later, when he checked on her, my mother propped herself up in bed at the Hinduja Hospital and asked if she might hug him! My mother is a cancer survivor and was diagnosed with diaphragmatic hernia in July 2020, ie during lockdown. Dr Bhandarkar suggested a video consult and carefully reviewed her case and suggested we wait until the pandemic peak passes and it’s safe for her to undergo surgery. In Feb 2021, Dr Bhandarkar has successfully completed her complicated surgery laparoscopically and with minimal discomfort to her and she is already well on her path to recovery! Besides his medical expertise, several accolades and successes, he is a great human being and we felt very comfortable and confident under his guidance. We will always be grateful to him.

On 16th March '21 I was admitted into Hinduja Hospital, Mahim for my planned laproscopic surgery to be performed by Dr. Deepraj Bhandarkar on 17th March '21 to repair a bilateral inguinal hernia. The surgery went well and I am indebted to Dr. Deepraj Bhandarkar. A consummate professional, Dr. Deepraj is the master of the minimal access surgery. Way back in 2013, my sister underwent a laproscopic surgery to repair umbilical cord hernia under Dr. Deepraj Bhandarkar. When I was diagnosed with my problem, I could think of no one other than Dr. Deepraj...such is the confidence I had in him like many others, I presume.
