Popularly known as' kappalu palli 'as it's architecture resembles a ship, may be this might have happened, as the city of cochin is mostly having marine backgrounds, shipyard, ships.. Then other name among the senior citizens is quite related to the geographic location of The cathedral.. It's in the central part of the Ernakulam city.. the heart 's place so they call her 'Naduvila palli 'naduvil in malayalam means central.And obviously, cathedral fames it's glory in the name of Mother of Perpetual Succour... so sweet to hear, each mouth praising her, as in the gospel of St. Luke, where she in ecstasy cries out 'My soul magnifiies The Lord, my spirit leaps for joy in God, my Saviour.... from this time, all generations shall call me blessed 'Yes from a sixteen year old jewish girl... to Our Lady, help of christians... This cathedral bells, call out, along with the Holy angels "Ave Maria ".

One of the churches which does not have a pillars. Only pillars are along the wall. A magnificent sight, a huge ceiling hanging overhead. There is a sense of calm and peace,feels good to be there.
