Kalinjar Durg is a fort located in the Banda district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Situated on the Vindhya mountain in the Bundelkhand region, this fort is 49.8 (97.7) km away from Khajuraho, a World Heritage Site. It has been counted among the largest and unbeatable fortifications in India. There are many ancient temples in this fort. Many of these temples belong to the Gupta period from the third to the fifth century. It is believed about the Shiva temple here that after drinking the Kalkuta poison emanated from Sagar-Manthan, Lord Shiva did penance here and calmed his flame.
