‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Statue’ is located at Shivaji Chowk on Bhausingji Road in Kolhapur. This marvelous statue is situated at the centre of Shivaji chowk. Every year on 19th February, ‘Shivajayanti Day’ is celebrated here on the occasion of birth anniversary of the great emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It is celebrated with huge enthusiasm, youngsters play lazim and perform. The statue of ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’ stands erect and is very attractive, it is covered with decorative wall on which hang the portraits based on the scenes of bravery of ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’. The Shivaji Chowk is named so because of this ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Statue’. ‘Chowk’ means an intersection of 4 roads, one road goes in the direction of ‘Kolhapur Municipal Corporation’, second goes to ‘Bindu chowk’, third goes to ‘Bhavani Mandap’ and fourth goes to ‘Papachi Tikati’. The famous ‘Shri Mahalaxmi Temple’ of Kolhapur is only 1 Km away from this place. So take a moment to see this beautiful statue while visiting ‘Shri Mahalaxmi Temple’ when you are in Kolhapur.

There is a magnificent and lifelike statue of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at an intersection of four roads known as Shivaji Chowk in Kolhapur. The statue is at the centre of the Chowk and forms an important landmark of Kolhapur. It is very close to the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation office and the Chatrapati Shivaji Market, and about 1 km from the Mahalaxmi Temple. Around the statue there are some metal sculptures depicting some episodes in Shivaji's life including the incident with Afzal Khan. One mural shows the extent of spread of the Maratha Empire during Shivaji's reign. Best time to visit this memorial is early morning when there is less traffic, since it is in the centre of an important road junction.
