DUE TO DILAPIDATION, A NEW KOOTHAMBALAM OR PERFORMING THEATRE WAS BUILT IN 1850 BY THACHAN (CRAFTS MAN) SRI VELLINEZHY NAMBOODIRIPAD BY THE ORDER OF COCHI DIWAN - SANKUNNI MENON. KOODIYATTOM, NANGIAR KOOTHU, CHAKYAR KOOTHU ALONG WITH SO MANY TRADITIONAL ART FORMS ARE PERFORMED IN THIS MEGA THEATER .A STAGE OR RAISED PLATFORM CALLED NATYA MANDAPOM AND A LONG HALL FOR THE AUDIENCE CAN BE SEEN INSIDE. HERE IN THIS KOOTHAMBALAM ONLY AMMANNUR CHAKYAR FAMILY HAS THE RIGHT TO PERFORM KOOTHU....... SADLY IN OLDEN TIMES, LOCAL PEOPLE ESPECIALLY LOW CASTE CANNOT DREAM ABOUT THE SHOW INSIDE......
