Very well maintained museum. Built in the 18th Century by the rulers of Jaipur the City Palace is a gem to watch. The palace is now turned into a heritage hotel and a museum. I really loved the architecture and the intrinsic details in it. The peacock door is a famous attraction here. There are many artifacts belonging to Sawai Man Singh and his family. This is the place where Lord Mountbatten's swearing in ceremony took place. There's always a rush no matter at what time you visit the palace. The parking is very close by and so is the market and street food shops. The descendants of the former rulers of Jaipur still reside in one part of this palace.

Incredible place to see Indian palace of past and modern time. Beautiful architecture is really masterpiece of all time! Discover the life style of royal family. Highly recommend to visit if you are in Rajasthan. Possible to make beautiful photos in different areas of museum/palace. Possible to join private guide who will be able to show most of the areas in the building, make photos and explain all facts and history of the area.

The City Palace, Jaipur was established at the same time as the city of Jaipur, by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, who moved his court to Jaipur from Amber, in 1727. Jaipur is the present-day capital of the state of Rajasthan, and until 1949 the City Palace was the ceremonial and administrative seat of the Maharaja of Jaipur. The Palace was also the location of religious and cultural events, as well as a patron of arts, commerce, and industry. It now houses the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum, and continues to be the home of the Jaipur royal family. The royal family of Jaipur is said to be the descendants of Lord Rama. The palace complex has several buildings, various courtyards, galleries, restaurants, and offices of the Museum Trust. The Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum Trust looks after the Museum, and the royal cenotaphs known as chhatris.

A new Painting & Photography gallery of Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum was inaugurated in 2015. It contains many rare paintings, maps, layouts, books & pictures. An enlarged map of Surat City dating to 1700 AD can be found here. Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II, was the most famous royal photographer. His photographic equipment used in 1850-60s which is bulky, is on display. There are many old portraits of women, royal guests, nobles & Jaipur city. Many of these pictures were taken by the Maharaja himself. It also includes 2000 glass plate negatives dating from the 1860- 80s.
