Berthed there as part of our Indian cruise. The port is not really geared for cruise ships. Although it is on the cruise itinerary. It is a working port for coal and steel and containers so as such possibly not top of the list for a cruise ship. Very dirty and noisy. Took the shuttle bus into town which was the same as any town in any country in the world. The difference being the culture and people. It was interesting to see what is everyday life of the people in New Mangalore, as opposed to the tourist places you usually visit. In this respect it was worth going. Other than that I could have been in a number of towns in any industrial country...

Good experience. Also know locally as Malya Gate.
It's one of the largest port in India. I dint go inside the port as I didn't have plans to visit it. Just passing by gave me a great look of it. I would one day like to go inside and have look at the operation of it.
It's a government port. The devolopment of this port is very slow.still old methods of loading discharging is used in this port.Seafarers can go out in this port with out too many formalities. The Mangalore town is about 30 minutes from this port.Hope this will be one of the biggest port in India.
