Monastery 51 is one of the iconic sorts of attraction at Sanchi Stupa. The monastery must have been used for meditation by monks.
It is located on the way towards Stupa 2. It is almost square in shape. It covers a large area.It is to be reached from main Stupa 1 stepping down about 25 stairs.it has thick wall and made from flat bricks. During excavation a large amount of charred wood was encountered, suggesting that the verandah-pillars and the roofs had been made of wood.
