The Rajiv Gandhi Chair in Contemporary Studie was established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India through the University Grants Commission in the year 2006 which has now evolved into an autonomous Centre of the University. The Centre works within the broad theme of Globalization, Democracy and Development. The areas of interest are primarily on the theme of PanchayatiRaj andLocal Governance, Impactof Technology on Society, Secularism & Nation Building along with other areas of work such asTribal Development, Social Justice, Livelihood and Food Security, Women’sEmpowerment,Eco System and Sustainable Development,Nuclear Disarmament and Peace Studies,Protection of Child Rights.
