Located on a citadel close to the Qutub Minar is this tomb built by Mughal Emperor Akbar to house the grave of his foster brother Adham Khan and his foster mother Maham Anga, who died soon after the execution of Adham by Akbar. One of the first Mughal mausoleum's to have been built, this tomb has more Central Asian elements than the finer Mughal ones which came on later. Though it's built on a very big scale there are harly any decorative elements on the exterior except for some Hindu Shatkone stars. The interiors are made light by the presence of many windows and ventilators which allow inna lot of light and air. This mausoleum was converted into a residence by an officer of the East India Company and the graves of Adham Khan and Maham Anga were relocated outside of the building. After a while the building was even used as a post office but Lord Curzon at the beginning of the 20th century restored it and moved back Adham Khan's grave but the remains of Maham Manga were lost forever. No entry fee and a few steps to enter but the building is used as a waiting area for those waiting to catch a bus and locals boys to play cricket. At least no one is desecrating the grave or the interiors of the building but I hope it was better protected.
Near to the bus terminal, make this a crowded place. Not a proper place to visit. the only thing you like there is the view of qutub minar.
Adham Khan was general of Akbar. He was killed on the orders of Akbar as Adham khan killed one of Akbar's finance minister who was close to him. Adham khan was thrown two times from walls of fort and his tomb is build by Akbar in Mehrauli. Tomb is located right in front of DTC bus terminal. Arcologic survey of India is not paying any attention to it. The Monument has lost its charm. It is a spare property now to the children to play gully cricket. If you have intrest in history you should visit it once.
The first Mughal tomb in India, Adham Khan's tomb is located near Mehrauli Bus Terminus. This monument is a famous meet up and hangout place in Mehrauli and is easily visible from the road as it is based on a raise plinth. There is no entry ticket to enter the monument nad can be visited during any hour of the day. The monument is dedicated to Akbar's foster brother, Adham Khan and his mother Maham Anga. Though only one grave is present today which belongs to Adham Khan. The monument is octagonal which is Lodhi architecture feature. It was built octagonal so that he could known as traitor, since Mughals considered Lodhis traitor, enemies and Adham Khan betrayed Akbar.
