The Paite has a script invented by Paucinhau in Burma but the Christian missionaries introduced to them the Roman Alphabet. Since 1910, books and primers began to be published with the Roman script. Bible began to be translated part by part. Since then, literary forum and literature body started to be formed among the educated Paites. One such body is Paite Literature Society (PLS) in India and Zomi Christian Literature Society (ZCLS) in Myanmar. The two bodies passed a historic resolution known as ‘Moreh Resolution’ in 1984 to work together for a ‘common literature’. After the 1970’s, a good number of illustrious writers, authors and poets appeared whose work greatly contributed to the growth of Paite literature. A number of dailies, magazines and books came to be published as well. Today, Paite is studied as a language at the university level in Manipur. The contribution of the PLS in Paite literature in Manipur is far reaching. It publishes textbooks for vernacular subjects from Primary to University levels. Its main agenda is a common writing system for the Paites of India and Burma. It still needs to struggle to fulfill this goal. The language itself is at the developing stage.
