The huge building complex shows the old era architectural design and great location for history lovers to explore the history.Sakthan Thampuran, was the ruler of the Kingdom of Cochin. He was the King of the present-day southern Indian city of Kochi and his palace was in Thrissur, which was a part of the Kingdom of Cochin. It is named as Vadakkekara Palace, was reconstructed in Kerala-Dutch style in 1795 by Ramavarma Thampuran. The palace was converted into a museum in 2005 by state government.

Photography is prohibited inside the museum. THE "GOOD"s : -Beautiful place, well maintained. The palace is a typical Kerala style building preserved well . -Includes various exhibits like stone sculptures and Ravi Verma paintings, coins from Chera age and more. -The items are labelled and additional information is also provided. -The Heritage garden beside the museum is a good photographic location overlooking the North Pond. THE "BAD"s : -Not many people to guide or explain the artifacts. -Car parking is taken up by local taxi companies thus making it difficult to find a spot. My view : Do visit if in Thrissur, a very green place and a clean atmosphere amidst the city bustle.

I'm a Thrissur native. But till this time, i never got an opportunity or time to visit this palace museum. Last weekend i went to the palace, and i have to say that it was amazing. A lot of historic artifact, collections, and many things including pre historic tools were found here. A good place if you love history.

Awesome place. I wish there are some guides to explain each corners. Even though there are staffs they don’t bother to explain it. As they are either busy in mobile or following couples creepily

The small museum in old palace buildings is set up in a simple way. There us not much in the way of information boards. However, helpful staff were available in every room to help describe and interpret the exhibits. Gardens are pretty too.
