The imposing Hotel Shalini Palace, a heritage structure steeped in debt, will soon go under an auctioneer's hammer, a top official said. The palace hotel has been taken over by Mumbai-based Saraswat Cooperative Bank Ltd, and its operations shut Dec 13, bank chairman Eknath Thakur confirmed.
A beautiful palace, but it's been locked because of some bank issue. Govt should see in the problem and make the palace open for tourist. It similar like the New Palace in kasba-bavda. With wonderful view of Rankala lake. It's architecture is brilliant. A watch is also there on the top of the palace in a tower.
‘Shalini Palace’ is located at the famous attraction of Kolhapur city ‘Rankala Lake’. ‘Rankala Lake’ is located on the western side of ‘Shree Mahalaxmi Temple’ of Kolhapur city; it is around 1.5 KM away from the temple. The Shalini Palace is situated at the west side of ‘Rankala Lake’. It's a historical place and it is the palace of Shahu Maharaj of Kolhapur. Currently it is closed down for tourists; so we can see its beautiful architecture from outside only. The Palace stands on the west bank of the picturesque Lake Rankala and is surrounded by towering palm trees, lush greenery and lovely gardens. So do visit to Rankala with your family or friends and see this palace, when you are in Kolhapur.
Shalini Palace in the city of Kolhapur in the Indian state of Maharashtra was built in 1931-34 at a cost of Rs. 800,000 and was named after Princess Shalini Raje of Kolhapur. The Palace stands on the west bank of the picturesque Lake Rankala (which has a circumference of 2.5 miles (4.0 km)) and is surrounded by towering palm trees, lush greenery and lovely gardens. The Palace is built of intricately carved black stone and Italian marble. Rich decorative wooden doorways fitted with etched Belgian glass bearing the crest of the Maharaja of Kolhapur, add to the regal grandeur. Majestic black stone arches form the verandah and the porch. The stained glass arches and the huge tower clock are restored to their original beauty. The palace has been converted 1987 into a 3-star hotel and has been used as a background for many films. Because of heavy losses it had to be shut down in 2014 and given over to the Municipality. It is closed by now (march 2018).
This Hotel has rundown toilets, creaky beds, creaky furniture, creepy crawly insects, generous dose of cockroaches -- yet I havent rated it terrible...as it gave us something which we never experience. Very good place.............................................................................. .. ......................
Public attraction place..near to Rankala lake
This place is closed temporally. Cause of legal and banking issues.
