Akash Karanam

One of the oldest dams in India. It is constructed across Krishna river in kurnool district. Construction of this dam began in 1960 and opened in 1981. It has a length of 512 metres and has 12 gates. It's surface area is 616 square kilometres. It is second largest hydroelectric project in India. One can plan for this trip from Hyderabad and return on the same day. Visual wonder.

Wonderful place. I have travelled here from Hyderabad for temple visit. I have visited the dam twice on my way to temple. It would be awesome if the gates are open and water is flowing down. Unfortunately I have visited when the gates are closed. It's like a one day trip you can plan from Hyderabad.
