It's a small space but some provision for the people for entertainment. I witnessed Indian classical dance performances of students here. This is close to the station but too small. The open amphi-theatre has very basic seating arrangement with dust, coarse slabs on which to sit. Next time I shall carry small mats to sit do that the coarse ground don't hurt. Had we smart and far-sightedness town planners Thaneites would have witnessed plush, spacious art and theatre galleries which would have encouraged more youngsters to come and spend more time here.

Ninty years old Heritage structure... Good for the crowd of 100... regained cultural tag after revamp but you could still feel the old world charm... on the outside is the beautiful amphitheatre which could accommodate 80 audiences... Walkable distance from Thane station west...

It's an excellent yet neglected community space that comes under the purview of the Collector Office. The original town hall building is very old and structurally well maintained. A few years back they built a good amphitheatre in the open space. This place has a lot of potential but also has a curse of public as well as public office apathy. We have booked the amphitheatre for more than 20 days in the last 4 years. The booking procedure is very convoluted and typical "sarkari", reminds one of Pankaj Kapoor's "Office Office". When you start the booking procedure around 5-6 months in advance, you finally get a confirmation around 2 months before you event. But keep in mind, when you are handed over the amphitheatre on the day of your event (after showing our permission letter to more than half a dozen "sarkari karmacharis", you will have to take tremendous efforts to clean the sitting area as well as the toilets. Arranging lights and sound system for the amphitheatre is acceptable. But arranging lights and water for the toilet is definitely not acceptable. And then the access path to the toilet is littered with garbage and scrap. But that's the way it is. On a different note, the Town Hall Amphitheatre is house to a very very rare tree (probably the only one in Thane) - Mallotus nudiflora, synonym Trewia nudiflora.
