This tomb of Akbar the Great, located in Sikandra, in the suburbs of Agra is an important Mughal architectural masterpiece, which was built between 1605-1613. Akbar himself commenced the construction of this tomb, according to Tartary tradition, which stated to commence the construction of one’s tomb during one’s lifetime. The South gate of this tomb is the largest with four white marble chhatri-topped minarets, similar to those of the Tajmahal. The buildings are constructed mainly from deep red sandstone. An inscription on the mausoleum reads: ‘These are the Gardens of Eden: enter them to dwell eternally.’

The tomb is built in red sandstone and holds some of the most stunning marble designs. As you walk into the building, you’ll find exquisite marble designs on the ceilings and mystical calligraphy towards the real underground tomb of Akbar. His remains (along with those of two of his daughters) can be found here. Timings- 10:00 am to 6:00 pm Prices- Indian/foreigner Rs. 15/110

This is the best among all the places in Agra. Go with a guide other wise this is a graveyard nothing else. You will get the sounds from the walls like phone. Rocking sound on the floor. But see with the help of guide. One more thing I want to add. There are two different tickets one for centre government and second for the state. This is highly painful. I buy my tickets on line but also paid in cash for state government. Authorities must see the same if it’s possible to get on the same tickets.

Love this place. Overall beauty of this tomb is unspeakable . Special attention to greenery and cleanliness. The buildings are constructed mainly from a deep red sandstonr enriched with features in white marble. Decorated inlaid panels of these materials and a black slate adorn the tomb and the main gatehouse. Highly recommended for the exploration of history of India

This is the tomb of Legendary Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great. Akbar Chose this suitable place and after his death, his Son Jahangir built his tomb. It took almost 3-4 years to built this tomb and cost around 1500000 rupees. This place is one of the most beautiful example of the Mughal Architecture. This place connects Directly to the history of Mughal emperor Akbar and Jahangir. This tomb was situated in 119 Acres of land.

The details in the architecture was amazing. Great tribute to Akbar the Great. Very few people there and you could easily explore. Love seeing the black buck grazing as we walked through layout. The tomb was a highlight of my trip to Agra.

If the Taj Mahal wasn't in Agra, the fort and here would still be shining stars. The entrance fee was 300 rupees and it was 400 rupees to take a tuk-tuk here and back. The building has some amazing inlays unfortunately no pictures are allowed in the tomb. The main building looks pretty much the same on all four sides. And I didn't see a way to get up to the top but perhaps I missed it. I was surprised how much wildlife I saw here, deer, monkeys, parrots, huge bee hives.
