There cannot be a more noble deed than gifting a life to the person who will go over the edge any moment. Why do we allow that our organs when we won't need should end up in smoke or lie buried to get wasted? Health of India depends on millions returning to life to be useful citizens of the nation or else just live a healthy life creating happiness in his own family which was under emotional distress and financial stress to provide for the treatment day in and day out. Only that family knows what it is to have its member lying in a hospital getting treatment which would not cure. Any healthy person over the age of 18 can enroll as an organ donor with the consent of two immediate members of his family to whom Organ Donor is to be issued. Thereafter he gets listed in the Central Registry. Organ donation and transplantation is now governed under the law passed in 1994. Those who had not taken the pledge in his lifetime, immediate family members can give the consent for harvesting of organs. Later the body is handed over to the family. Living persons can and do give part of liver, one kidney and part of pancreas to their suffering immediate family members. Other form of organ harvesting is from brain dead persons whose body functioning is managed by medical aids since brain does not have the capacity to send signals to his organs to function. In such cases harvesting and transplantation is done simultaneously. In due course of time lists of nearest medical centres will be available. Our vision is promote health. With this view all donors will get free medical tests done once in 2 years at their residence and finally who need medical treatment to get free consultation and medicines at subsidised rates.
